I completed an Artist-in-Residence in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park during October 2012. The residency was made possible by Friends of the Smoky Mountains and Discover Life in America. Both organizations provided housing in the park, research materials, and art supplies. During my stay, I completed 20 watercolors of species found only in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. The watercolor piece below was done for Friends of the Smoky Mountains and was inspired by the jewelweed that grew around the park cabin and office.
